Nature doesn't know waste

It doesn’t take a lot to make a difference!

With the aim of raising awareness of the visitors to Blidinje NP on the issues of environmental protection and proper waste disposal, especially in protected areas, Association “Visit Blidinje” is conducting an eco-campaign under the name of NATURE DOESN’T KNOW WASTE, with the slogan IT DOESN’T TAKE A LOT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. This eco-campaign was enabled through the EU ProLocal project (a program for local self-administration and economic development which is financed by the EU and the German Government), which is implemented by the German development agency GiZ, and supported by municipalities Tomislavgrad, Jablanica and Posušje.

The campaign entails several cleaning events conducted by elementary and highschools, as well as various groups of eco-activists, with the support of hiking, speleological and ornitologic associations from this arera.

The campaign has also yielded the first multi-use waste disposal bag, unique in this region, which will be distributed through various activities, and is expected to have a large impact on raising awareness to not litter in nature.

Two conferences with the topic of systematic resolution of waste disposal issues are also planned, as well as setting up “green islands” that would improve waste sorting, and resolve the issue of the current inadequate waste disposal of the local population and visitors, through implementing measures of communal waste management.

“This campaign is local in its character, but it’s extremely important for the whole country as it reflects the spirit of the collective consciousness and a common goal for all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the rest of the planet”, said Ante Vukadin, the president of the “Orlova stina” hiking association based in Tomislavgrad, whose members are taking part in the cleaning efforts.
